Director Wes Craven recently told IGN that he is less than thrilled over the Platinum Dunes' A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Kind of strange for someone who has pretty much agreed to have every single one of his films remade at some point.
"Yes it does hurt, it does because its such an important film for me that, unfortunately, when I signed the original contract I gave up all rights to it and so there's nothing I can do about it," he says. "I was much happier with Last House on the Left that I could kind of shepherd it towards production and we found a really wonderful director."
"I don't even know who's doing it and I'm not interested. It's actually really painful to think about it. It's the film of mine that I probably love the most, and which made the most money. The script went around Hollywood for three years and nobody touched it and I went through all my life savings and everything else to pay for it, so I had to make the deal I did. Frankly, at that time I thought it would be one movie and that's it. I never thought it would go on and on and on."
The move was awesome, I don't know what you're bitching about.
You can tell Wes Craven had no input on this movie. The Freddy character from his makeup to his lame voice and shitty one liners disappointed from start to finish. Plus some of the new characters and killings were just crap. I hate when companies go out and remake these horror classics, they seem to always shit the bed.
I think a remake is a good thing because the Freddy movies have been dying out and this will bring them back to life again. I never would have thought Kelly from Bad news bears would be the new Freddy Krueger though. But from the trailers I think this movie looks darker than the original. I like how it shows how he dies and such. It dosent look like Freddy is going to be humorous in this remake like the old freddy movies but that can be a good thing because I thought the nightmare movies started making freddy more of a comedian as they went along. I would like to see Freddy more darker, I think it will make it more scary. Of course I think that Robert Englund will always be the best Freddy Krueger but It will be fun to see a remake. This still wont change the fact that the original Nightmare on elm street will always be the best. I just bought all the Nightmare on elm streets dvds from walmart the other day. One dvd has parts 1-4 and one has parts 5-8 so go check them out.
Robert Englund has had a lot of great roles outside of Freddy. He himself said that Sid would make a great Freddy and that he couldnt' wait for the remake. Personally, I can't wait for this, I have it on my calander, and I'm gonna see it in theatres.
Movies with classic characters always evolve with new writers, directors, and actors. Example... Heath Ledger was a terrible choice for the Joker in my opinion before I attended the movie. I was proven wrong. His performance had subtle nuances of other actors but he created his own. It was a fresh take and the revamp was pleasing. In correlation to Freddy, I believe Brady will be good and I am interested to see how he will execute his take on the legend. It will be a fresh approach and if the screenplay is good, with a little desensitation I have high hopes for Brady if he carrys a demeanor similiar to his Rorshack character. I viewed the 'Watchmen' just to inspect the actor cast to play Freddy. I have been a fan since I saw 'A Nightmare' in 1984 on the big screen. I am also excited, despite CGI, to see Benicio Del Toro play the 'Wolfman'. He shares a fond resemblance to Lon Chaney.
How many Draculas, Wolfmen, Frankensteins, have we had. Robert Deniro as the Frankenstein monster?! Who complained about that? I couldn't believe how good that movie was. Keaton as Batman?! Who complained about that?! I am pro Robert Englund, but I feel after the first two it became campy. I hated when it stopped scaring me. But how many times can I keep watching the same two movies? I love them, but I have a good feeling about the remake. If I am proven wrong about Brady, oh well. I guess I will have to find something else to look forward to.
Can't Beleive this BS. I heared theres a new nightmare on elm street and thought Come on all time fave, love freddy GOTTA see this. BUT then sew the trailer :**( CAN'T BELEIVE they aint used Robert Englund he IS freddy in my mind and no one can replace i dont care how good he is. I feel robbed and there aint a chance i'm paying my money to see this at the flicks. Stick it!!!
I am going to see it because it is my favorite, but is it really a niightmare without wes craven and robert england
Uh, dude, Rob Zombie only did one good movie; Halloween. Also, not ALL remakes are bad. The Telefilm remake of Carrie was better than the original. But whatever. I am just as pissed as all of you, but I WILL in fact see the movie just because it WAS my favorite. Who knows, it MIGHT be good.
ok, ok, I know a lot of people are super pissed about this whole remake thing, and I parcialy agree with them. But here is where they lose me. People hate the fact that Robert isnt going to be Freddy, but people dont know that he did not want to be in the film, he didnt want to be Freddy, and i understand that because hes been Freddy for so long. I do agree that he will always be the best Freddy there ever was or will be, but remakes shouldnt be so bad. Our generation is all about remakes. List: Halloween, Friday The 13th, Last House on The Left, and rumors about Hell Raiser, Scream and even Child's Play, thats what our generation does. It just brings up to our level. I do however understand Wes's greif. Everyone knows what its like to call dibs on something and someone else take it. With all that said, I will still watch the new movie, knowing it wont ever be as good as the original, but ill still watch it because its A Nightmare on Elm Street. And i just hope that it will give the original some respect.
I read what u had to say and I agree whole heartedly about Wes Craven being fucked over to that extremity, it's his movie. I honestly believe that Wes Craven should've at least some type of involvment in production or directing like he said he had in last house on the left. As for everybody being pissed off that Robert Englund isn't Freddy and their still stuck on the original...As I seem to remember the original they didn't really show how Freddy died or anything. In this upcoming remake their actually show us more, just like Rob Zombie did for us in Halloween, just giving us a little more of how Freddy was maybe make it a little more sick and twisted, we won't really know till we see it. As for Rob Englund he's getting older now so he probobly will retire from the business in a few years or so. And to all the people who are practically boycotting this movie I've got 2 things to say #1- Find a new hobby(girlfriend, masturbation, etc) and #2-Get BENT...
They will botch this movie like they have every other remake. Unless you are Rob Zombie leave the Horror movies alone!
what is wrong with the original nightmare on elm street absolutely nothing and not having robert englund in it as freddy and having a guy and please i don't even want to hear what he was nominated for just because he was up for a award doesn't mean he can play freddy.he doesn't have the height the stance hell he don't even have enough weight on him.there is only one person and we all know who that is.i can only hope that is a major disney movie that opens the same day as this film to totally rip it a new asswhole.
"A NIghtmare on Elm Street" is my favorite horror movie PERIOD. And to think that a queer from "Watchmen" is going to take over RObert Englund (one of my favorite actors)'s roles, is just terrible. THe reason it was my favorite is simple: No one tried to copy (don't fight with me about sequels, I've been there and done that). With oh, say, Friday the 13th (original), the whole "Camp Killer" thing is used up. But, a dude coming into your dreams and killing you, is just, well, Freddy Krueger. Thats it. No rip offs (that I've seen, and I'm pretty sure I would have). Wes Craven has every right to be upset, and as for the Scream 4 thing, it's just a bad idea and NO, Wes will NOT be directing.
Come on! This is the one movie of his that gave him the status he has today. This was his baby. His BIGGEST hit. Sure his other movies are all DAMN good, BUT this particular one... oh my god. Greatest idea ever put to film, ever! Its rare that someone doesnt know who the character Freddy Krueger is. At least in this country. Wes is an icon because of this movie. So I would be SO pissed too. If I had money,Id certainly buy the damn right to the movie and give them back to him so no one could ever touch it again. This remake is the DUMBEST idea ever...ESPECIALLY replacing Robert, ahahah. What dumbasses. I just pray that no one goes to see this movie when it hits theaters, hit those fuckers where it hurts..in their pockets where the damn money wont be. Get a new hobby and quit trashing classic horror movies.
I can see another movie in the series, with Robert as Freddy. They can make 50 of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies as far as I am concerned. I would watch EVERY one of them. I want to BE in some of them for that matter. That is my favorite movie of all time. I can remember the very first time I seen part 1. I was 4 years old. The local theater was showing a midnight showing of it, and my mother took me thinking I would sleep through the whole thing because it was so late. Didn't happen though. I stayed up, watched the whole thing, and loved it. She made me a Wes Craven, Nightmare fan at a very early age. Since then, I wanted to get into acting and try to land myself on one of the Nightmare movies.
There is ONLY 1 Freddy, and that is Robert Englund. No one can replace him. unless they LOOKED and ACTED just like Robert, they couldn't come close. YEAH, they would be wearing a lot of makeup, but I could still tell if it wasn't Robert.
Yeah, he's also considering being involved with Scream IV, V, and VI so it's a little strange.
