Robert Englund recently chatted with Shock Till You Drop. Here is what he had to say about the Elm Street remake.
When asked, Have you had a chance to meet Jackie Earle Haley and figuratively pass Freddy's bladed glove?
"We were supposed to have dinner together and I was going to give him a list of all my favorite film festivals for him to go to in Europe. ‘Robert's Top Five': my favorite little resorts from the southern coast of Spain and stuff. I'm hoping to get him that list anyway, because after wearing the makeup and after doing publicity for the movie it's kind of fun to go over there and have a little bit of distance from the United States, and the hospitality is very wonderful over there. They come at the project with a little bit of a different angle and it's a little bit refreshing. You don't feel like you're repeating yourself quite as much, so I want to give him my Robert Englund's Top Five list of film festivals to go to."
Are you excited to see the new Nightmare on Elm Street?
"I'm really curious. I'm a big fan of talented actors and there's some real talented actors in this project. Clancy Brown, Connie Britton from Friday Night Lights. Especially a young actor that I love from The Sarah Conner Chronicles which was recently cancelled, Thomas Dekker – I think he's playing the Johnny Depp role, and Jackie. I've been a fan of Jackie's since the early '80s. He did a wonderful film called Breaking Away. In fact, I think if you go back and really watch that movie Jackie's probably the actor who invented the sort of slacker character even before Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and even before Kevin Smith's Clerks. He kind of coined that character and I don't think that he ever got enough credit for that."
You can read the entire interview here, where Englund also talks about V and his web series Fear Clinic.
i liked the old freddy kruger better because he was alot scarier than the 2010 freddy kruger
Na man, this movie sucked. Started out with potential but quickly faded. I'm cool with Freddy being a kid rapist, but he's better as a kid killer. If he already had sex with the kids, why come back and kill 'em? So where did the glove come from? No trial? Where's Nancy's dad? Who the hell is Quinton? Shit was just terrible man.
WOW! Great work! Another awesome Horror Classic is ruined, thanks to Michael Bay!
This movie just sucks! And i realy hope that he is gonna stop now. After Friday the 13th and Chainsaw Massacre this was the worst remake ever!
WHERE IS ROBERT ENGLUND (THE ONYL FREDDY KRUGER ACTOR ON THIS PLANET!)??? They didnt even ask him to play HIS CHARACTER!
So, PLEASE Michael Bay STOP ruining good old Horror Movies and continue playing with your little transformer sh**!
Robert Englund will always be the best at playing Freddy. This new guy just wasn't ready. He didn't portray the swag that Freddy had. I remember watching Freddy when I was growing up and I was scared to death, afraid to go to sleep, literally. The movie was O.K but it wasn't the best I've seen thus far. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen a good scary movie since Nightmare on Elm Street 1. Any suggestions.
maybe this one: Can Robert Englund do it just one more time?
The remake sucked. I was disappointed. Its not the same without the original Freddie. They ruined Nightmare On Elm Street. Shame on them to do that to such a great classic.
i seen the movie and i love how freedy was funny as could be, i thought it was more funny then anything.
what a piece of shit...seriously.....it's awful, and not just because Robert Englund wasn't in it (although I was really disappointed at how Jackie portrayed Freddy)
I really hate how he was a pedophile in this movie....People used to cheer for Freddy, they used to love him...now he's just gross.
i saw the movie tonight and robert englund is the only one that can play freddie.... the movie was actually really good and im a huge nightmare on elm street fan and i was very please with this movie it had lots of suspense.... the only thing i really did like in this movie was the way the new freddie looked it just wasnt the same i look forward to seeing robert's face and sadly i was let down.... the new freddie was an excellent actor but it just wasnt the same.
I completely agree with you, that is exactly what I thought. The movie was good overall, but when I first saw the new "Freddy" appear in the movie, I was completely let down. The movie was good, but honestly, no one can play Freddy like Englund. They could've at least found someone that looks even remotely like the original character. This Freddy, no offense, looked like a premature asian. His face looked smashed, and he looked even more fake then the original. With the way that technology is now, they could've done a way better job on his face (at least make him more beliveable, and SCARY). My 5 year old cousin laughed at him and thought he was funny, he wasn't even scared of him.
ya i do agree with you i t just wasn't the same
Robert Englund will ALWAYS be the "Freddie" however Jakie Earle Haley is an AWESOME actor. I think it will be the sh*** if you know what I mean. I liked the movie Watchmen and he kicked tail in that!! I am excited, wasn't gonna really watch it but now that I know who will be Freddie oh YEAH I am gonna watch!!!!!!!
Seriously, i am not saying the new movie is gonna be bad, but i think without the original Freddy, the new will always missed sth.
