I agree. Since I saw the first nightmare in 2002 when I was 12, It has been my favorite horror movie PERIOD. I was PISSED when I found out about the remake. How dare the dumbass from the Watchmen play Freddy? Am I right? Then I saw the trailer, and I dramatically changed my mind. I now want to see the film. I agree COMPLETELY about Robert, but I have to bring up Kane Hodder as Jason. He recreated that character, and Yet, I liked Derek Mears as him in the remake. That was also an insperation for me to want to see the NOES remake. It might be good, it might suck, but hey Dallas, we will always have the original.

When it comes to horror films, I'm very much a purist. I am a firm believer in the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
That applies here.
The first time I saw "A Nightmare On Elm Street", it was 1986. My parents had left me with a baby sitter for the night, and she was watching the movie on VHS. (I guess it had just come out on video or something.) I was three years old, and that movie scared the living hell out of me. I slept with my closet light on every night until I was seventeen years old.
Freddy was my boogeyman. He lurked in shadows and under the bed. I had horrible nightmares about him, yet I couldn't stop watching the films. "A Nightmare on Elm Street" became as much a beloved part of my childhood as Barbie dolls and New Kids on the Block.
Imagine my shock when I found out about the remake.
Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. His body language, facial expressions, terrible puns all helped to shape the persona of this quintessential boogeyman.
Although I loved him as Rorschach and got the creeps from him as the pedophile in Little Children, I fear that Jackie Earle Haley won't bring enough to the table in the remake to a) make Freddy his own and b) keep him true to the form that we die-hard Freddy fans have known, loved and feared for the past twenty-five years.
When I originally caught wind of the NOES re-boot, I was adamant that I would not go to see it, and I encouraged other friends of mine to boycott the film. To me, Robert Englund is, and always will be Freddy Krueger.
I've changed my mind, however. My curiosity is piqued by what the "new Freddy" will look like, and I'm willing to see what Haley can do. So, I'm gonna go see this re-vamped version. I can only hope that, lacking originality as it does, it will at least be a sufficient homage to a character that has frightened the living daylights out of me for the past twenty three years.
I'm glad they didn't change him DRAMATICALLY. Of course, he is going to look different (he doesn't have Robert's eyes) and I am glad that he is scary, unlike some remakes where they change the look too much. Oh yeah, Eli, The MY BLOODY VALENTINE remake was the shit!!! LOL! J/K. As a remake, yes it sucked, but as another horror film it fucking rocked.

The original is my all time favorite movie in the world, and I've never been repulsive to remakes, but I really am disappointed they are remaking this one. Expensive advertising, like the one sheet above, or the staged pictures can all look good and awesome and cool, but it's not going to govern whether the movie is good or pathetically lame, cliché, and down-right terrible from story to characters. Don't get me wrong, I really want them to prove me 110% wrong, but they did the exact same the thing with Friday the 13th with advertising and such and the movie turned out to be a complete failure, the characters all seemed to be expendable, predictable, and thinner than cardboard -- they had absolutely nothing to them and I could care less which one was picked off next. It was basically another sequel with a new bunch of kids that are slaughtered. If it is a REMAKE of an ORIGINAL movie then the remake actually has to be original -- and I'm sad to say it wasn't in the least. Which leads me to say that the real main problem with remakes is that people pick up the idea because they know: # 1? It makes money (proved time and time again it sells to remake a classic, whether they deny it or not it's the MONEY!), second is it's the perfect scape goat for upcoming directors, actors, etc to have their name known and gain extra fame through a well-known name, in this case NOES, and lastly and most importantly is with the knowledge of all this above, the select people behind these remakes don't spend their time wisely on key elements that made the originals ACTUALLY good! They spend their time on the ONLY thing they know: the iconic character that made it famous, the killer. When they do this they ignore character development, and key storytelling elements that are absolutely essential to making a good film (but it doesn't matter to them, it makes the $$$ either way) and us unintelligent fans buy into the whole idea and flock to the theaters anyway (even though truthfully I will also probably go see it in theaters just because it's my favorite film). I have even more confirmed faith that the film will disappoint because we all have past proof of several terrible remakes before this one (all under the belt of the same ones in charge of the NOES remake), otherwise I wouldn't be so quick to judge. The film is already wrapped up so I know that nothing is going to be undone what already is done. I just want everyone to open their eyes and not be so brainwashed by the same filth that drew us in time and time before! Message to those involved in my favorite movie remake: PROVE ME WRONG PLEASE!

I'm a masiive NOES fan and was gutted when I heard Englund wouldn't reprise his role as the Springwood Slasher, however I will keep an open mind until I have actually seen the reboot. I must say the one sheet does look awesome! The second picture looks even better scrapping that razor blade on a blackboard, thinking about that sound alone makes me shiver!

JH has a lot to live up to.... R.E. played Freddy for so long that not only is the character, but the voice, stance, expressions, to me are iconic.
He's got some big shoes to fill..... But Im not going to count him out. If anybody is up to the challenge it would be him!
It will be a real disappointment if this turns out weak!
