A Nightmare on Elm Street topped the box office this weekend earning an estimated $32.2 million. We will have a full report tomorrow -- plus we wrap-up our Best Death Tournament!

Let's get this out of the way: Jackie Earle Haley is not Robert Englund. It was common knowledge when the reboot was announced that they would cast someone new as Freddy Krueger. I will admit, even I was saddened by the news. Let's face it, would you have wanted Sean Connery as James Bond in Quantam of Solace? No. And not because he's too old. I'm certain he could still pull it off. It's becasue the new 007 movies have taken a different direction. Englund could be Freddy again with both hands tied behind his back. But this is not the old Nightmare on Elm Street.

Bloody Disgusting published two interviews today; one video interview featuring A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Thomas Dekker, Rooney Mara, and Kyle Gallner, and a text interview with the new Freddy himself, Jackie Earle Haley. Check out the video interview below and read Haley's interview here.

In an interview with FEARnet, Elm Street producer Bradley Fuller said that it is too early to start talking about a sequel. He also talked about Platinum Dunes' decision to dump Robert Englund and "funny Freddy," in an effort to bring a serious tone back to the franchise.

Synopsis:

Freddy Krueger returns in A Nightmare on Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of surburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.

Here is a new clip of Freddy chasing Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street. It possibly features the best look we have had of Krueger so far! Thanks to Yahoo Movies for this one!

Robert Englund recently chatted with Shock Till You Drop. Here is what he had to say about the Elm Street remake.

When asked, Have you had a chance to meet Jackie Earle Haley and figuratively pass Freddy's bladed glove?
