There isn't much of a synopsis for the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake since it is basically the same story as the original film, but here is the shortened version from Nightmareonelmstreet.com anyway. I also added it to the cast page so we should be all up-to-date.
Official Synopsis:
Freddy Krueger returns in A Nightmare on Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of surburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep. there is no escape.

Robert Englund was not responsible for the "one liners" - the writers and money hogs who think we need to "lighten" a story with comic relief to keep it within the realm of marketing to younger age groups. I even feel victim to the costume or two for Halloween. But i admit, when R.Englund did portray him in the dark, sinister role that we all enjoy - its the best. As for now I cant comment on the new freddy , but as i understand our old buddy Robert said he was glad to see a fresh take on a classic character. And that Jack Haley was a good choice.
**Spoiler - Special Stunt double for the bath tub scene. Credits will be - Freddys Hand in Bathtub. Notice the increased size of the new Glove as well. The older version seemed slimmer or less bulky.
I have to agree. Growing up Robert Englund WAS and will always BE FREDDY KRIEGER! I have seen every Nightmare movie out there. So, that said I am really looking forward to see what they can do in terms of trying to hold a candle up to the greatest iconic person that has personified Kruger. Robert Englund.
i dont care who you are but Robert Englund is and always will be Freddy Krueger, He made Freddy Krueger who he is not who ever they have playing him!!
seriously! everyone out there hating on remakes cuz they use a different actor. its not such a bad thing. Look at it this way. we have the films that established who freddy is and who perfected them, watch em and quit bitchin. And robert englund took a horror icon and turned him into a cheesey one liner.so why not take it back to the original where freddy wasnt a jokester, he was a terrifying dream demon who preys on the fears of children. I love robert englund but we have had 8 movies with him. its time to move on and show that there are other actors out there that can do just as well. Give em a chance, you might like it.
