As most of you know, the moment the trailer for Nightmare on Elm Street was released, everyone had an opinion. Most of it was positive, however the detractors did appear in full force. Surprisingly, Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes actually commented about some of things flooding the message boards
"We are continuing to refine Freddy's look", he offered. "Many people commented about the CGI on his face - and I don't want to give everything away but I will say this - Freddy's face is 98% practical make-up. Moreover, as you now know we went hardcore on what a burn victim really looks like."
It was also mentioned that Jackie Earle Haley has been working hard on the voice, saying that he is actually observing people with burnt vocal chords to make sure it is authentic.
No response to the Superman reveal of the sweater yet......
all i have to say is 1.......2....... Freddy's coming for you HAHAHAHAHA
Yeah I'm going to agree with those who are opposed to this movie. Not that it matters since it's already made, but hopefully when it comes out it bombs.
I don't get what the point is of the writer/director/producer or whoever that wants to defend destroying the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. What's with all the talk about going tor "realism" and studying how real burn victims look and talk when you're making a movie that the majority of it is supposed to take place in a fantasyworld? I also don't understand the person who commented that they liked the idea of implying Freddy may be innocent of murdering anyone, therefore he's getting revenge on the parents who wrongly killed him because if he was guilty it would make no sense for him to keep killing after he died....well, it seemed to work well enough to spawn something like 6 sequels and Michael Bay to decide he'd like to destroy yet another franchise (like he's done with ALL his remakes, that's another thing, apparently Michael Bay has no ideas of his own).
If Freddy is a child killer already and he's killed by the parents of his victims, it makes perfect sense for him to keep killing because now he's been made more powerful by the very people who were trying to stop him. Again, we are talking about a movie so why are some people trying to put so much of a real-world view to it?? The more fantasy a film like this is, the better it should be. Not the opposite.
Im sorry but after watching the trailer,im majorly dissapointed.. im a huge Nightmare on elm street fan. and was actually excited when i heard about the remake..HOW WRONG WAS I.
My Fave nightmares though are 1/3/7{funny how i found out AFTER that wes craven was involved with these one..just goes to show the guy who had the idea in the first place always gets it right first time round }.. seven i thought the idea that wes had was brill..making freddie more scary more EVIL. THis Remake i actually laughed at it.. nancy looks wrong!!!!!!!!! freddie even worse.... the trailer has confirmed me to the idea to actually avoid this movie...its wrong and awful what they've done...
I'LL STICK TO THE ORIGINALS...
PS// the 1st one was in the 80's and it looks better than that... sad state of affairs that in this day and age with cg and all, that the effects have regressed in effect.........
I thought it was ok I hope its scary I wish you guys the best of luck pulling this off because i am a big fan of freddy kuger. by the way are you guys going to buy chucky.
You're not a 'big fan of freddy' if you are supporting this knock-off wonna be remake. so don't call yourself a fan,,, keep with your doll (chucky) fetish.
I used to do a dead on impression of freddy *no pun intended* loved his one liners. I did NOT want to see this movie but i thought i'll give it a try.
BIGGEST waste of money. Its not Robert Englund, its not his version of it. He acted nothing like the Freddy we all know. There were a few funny one-liners, but for the most part it was totally out of character, no real cat and mouse games, no playing with his victims, it was more about how many body's he could slash within the first few minutes of the game so the rest of the movie could concentrate on the pedophile story line.
I miss the REAL freddy
Whoa there buddy! Opinions are fine but stating some one is not a true fan? What makes you the authority? I for one have been a follower of the Nightmare franchise but horror movies in general since I was like 8. Freddy and Jason over many of the other horror icons were my absolute favorites. I will admit I was saddened to hear that Robert would not be reprising the role, but I have high hopes for Jackie. As a huge fan of the original series of films and of the Freddys Nightmares TV series, believe me I understand the apprehension at the series being rebooted. However I will also be the first one to say that as much as I love the original series, I do feel that the films have grown long in the tooth. Same thing with Friday the 13th, and I thought the remake was a good film, not great mind you, but good. It did what it was supposed to, entertain( And I would argue that wether you liked that film or not everything that was needed to lable that film Friday the 13th was there) . Also remember that Freddy didn't become the wisecracking jester until Dream Warriors. Yes there was the occasional smarmy comment in the first two films, but it didn't really become his "thing" until 3. So I forgive them on that. Also remember that this movie is not being made for the old fans, as much as we like to think that they are, but to attract the new fans who may or may not be familiar with the originals! Think aboiut this for a second, an entire generation of kids who did not grow up with this franchise arechomping at the bit to see this film, and after seeing this film they go to Target. While at Target they see this neat box labled A Nightmare on Elm Street 8 Film Box Set and buy it. Now you have just introduced the original series to some one who may not have bothered with it before( after all "A horror series made in the 80's? Like before special fx were cool looking? Get Out!" says the silly 16 year old with no clue) . The remake is a good thing for the franchise trust me! Bottom line is Robert Englund may be our Freddy, but like it our not Jackie Earle Haley will be our children's Freddy. If you want the franchise to survive you have to re-invent it sometime!
Freddy looks ridiculous.. like a mix between a Turtle and a scarecrow.. Not scary at all.
I can understand they are trying to go for "realism", but Freddy isn't JUST a burn victim.. he is a Dream DEMON..and the original style of make up was perfect.. And the voice is terrible as well, sounds like Freddy is chewing cotton while talking...
That will hurt the movie big time IMO,,..
Being, a fan of nightmare on elmstreet i feel like this is such a dissapointment! what they couldn't get robert englund to play the part or something? His voice is terrible it sounds like batman in the dark night scratchy and so damn annoying! I loved the fact of a NEW and IMPROVED nightmare on elmstreet but i have a feeling it's going to be a let down just like all the 2010 movies that are being released. Seeing him running in the beginning saying he didnt do anything, really stood our to me it made the movie look cheesy. On the other hand, i don't get it is this supposed to be a remake of the first nightmare on elm street or something, cause i saw alot of familiar parts. Anyways, if anyone could fill me in on it , that would be great!!
P.S : No one has to freak out, this is just MY opinion on it.
yes its a remake u moron, what planet have you been on? who doesn't know this is a remake? also, everyone needs to stop crying about robert england. Grow up. The man has made millions of dollars from playing the role over the years. He decided not to resume the role. You get so upset about him not being in the movie, but would he be upset if any of you couldn't pay your bills or your rent/mortgage? Prob not,. Im just as big of a fan of the series as anyone. was he great as freddy? no doubt. am i gonna bitch and moan because HE DECIDED not to come back to remake the series? not at all. I'm gonna be open minded and enjoy the movie, because at the end of the day thats all it is, a movie. So lets try to put our bottles and pacifiers away, wipe our eyes with some tissues, and stop crying over something so dumb.
Oh sorry also I'm not really impressed with the voice or the look. Granted there is only so much you can do about the voice but I think as far as the look they should go with what works and keep it low budget like the original. He kinda look like someone poured glue on him and covered it with some sand
I'm not sure if Nyone has said anything about this yet but in this trailer while freddy is being chased By the parents he screams that he didn't know what they though he had done. I remeber in the original thAt Freddy was a child killer and proud of it. I think it might be a bad call to have the remAke be a revenge story of an innocent man wrongly killed. I think it's always more frightening to have someone who was already awful to begin with play the dream stalker than some guy who wanted revenge cause he was punished for something he didn't do. I don't know it seems stupid to me
Yes but if their going for realism this time around then at a psychological level Krueger may have thought that what he had done wasn't wrong at all. Even in the earlier movies Krueger was a derranged individual from the time he was a small child as if he couldn't control his psychotic tendencies and since scientific studies have proven that these tendencies that create and manufacture serial killers in our society are caused by a malfunction in the brain that causes these people to think at a completely different level then what would be concidered normal, it wouldn't be to far fetched to think of Freddy as such.
The whole point of doing a remake is not to just give it a better look through new technology, but to also tell the story as seen through different eyes. Wouldn't it make more sense that Freddy was an innocent victim of an outraged mob who exacted his revenge on the children of those responsible for his death? If he really was guilty of the child crimes, why would he come back and haunt more kids?
IMO I would have loved to see what Rob Zombie would have done with this franchise. Personally I loved the way he did the Halloween movies by showing parts that we weren't privey to in the original franchise.
I liked the trailer. The look and voice will take some getting use to. Hopefully we will get a mix of what we want. Something new but still famillure. What we need to stay away from is the whole "not the same" thing. Its not R.E., so it won't be the same. The actor has to put his own spin on it. Lets see how it goes.
Also, the series started with a scarier Freddy, and then turned to the more comic one. I like the original and hope this movie stays with that. The comic Freddy was fun, but over done. I don't think that a voice will make that big of a difference. It is what behind it.
They listen, but we can only hope they are listening to the RIGHT people. ;)
the movie looks amazing the build up in the tralier is great and then you see freddys face and voice and i actually got angry. You cant mess with a horror icon like that besides why would you go for a more realistic approach with freddy...HE KILLS YOU IN YOUR DREAMS!!! the actor playing freddy is a great actor i love seeing him in movies i hope they definetly change the voice even if not the face, id hate to see this remake ruin the franchise like the Friday the 13th remake did. after all that i am looking forward to seeing it i would just be that more pumped if the face and voice were a little different!
NN
I went into watching the trailer with the mindstate that "The old Freddy's never existed". I was very impressed with the make-up and that voice was evil, I LOVED it!
People need to realize that this is a totally diiferent movie, it's not ment to be the same, it's not ment to be a sequel! They are starting from stratch, and I am extremely impressed from what I have seen.
Great work, I can't wait for it's release!
Paul
"the old Freddy's never existed"
1. no 's' on Freddy.. it was only and always MR. ROBERT ENGLUND.
2. No MR. ENGLUND = No FREDDY. It shouldn't even be called anything with the Nightmare on Elm Street name, it's a SIN what they did.
"People need to realize that this is a totally different movie, it's not ment to be the same, it's not ment to be a sequel! They are starting from stratch, and I am extremely impressed from what I have seen."
NO ONE CAN COMPAIR THE 2, NO ONE CAN REPLACE MR. ENGLUND.
YOU ARE SAYING STARTING FROM STRATCH, THEN START WITH A NEW MOVIE ALL TOGETHER. THIS NEW ACTOR WILL NEVER FILL THE ROLL PROPERLY, SO WHY BOTHER. MR. ENGLUND MADE WHAT FREDDY IS, AND WE ALL LOVE HIM FOR IT!
Paul, your comment was WRONG go talk on the Jason (13) movies boards, those fans don't care who plays that slow, mute hockey masked roll, there you might be more liked.
It seems silly to release a teaser trailer using unfinished footage.
I think the reason it looked like a Superman reveal was because his jacket was probably meant to be on fire.
truthfully i dont mind his look but the voice definately threw me off...btw i didnt mind the superman thing lol i thought it was good for a trailer
I'm glad they listen and hope they realize that the voice is awful. It should be scary and menacing. It sounded like an old scottish man. Needs to be fixed.
The trailer was perfect leave it alone .Freddy makeup was super the glove was awesome and the voice was right on .Don't screw with any of it leave it the way it is please .You will just mess it up
That is sweet that they are taking peoples opinions and dislikes about the voice and the burnt face.
It would be better if he said "Man it is hot in here why did I wear this jacket and sweater," then he rips it off. Lol!
Rod, you prefer a joker freddy then a more realistic, serious? I just want Freddy to be real, creepy as hell and one that will huant my mind day and night! I didn't like how Freddy became so jokerish as the series went on. I mean he can have a few lines that make you laugh. But thats it. My opinion anyways.
I was just poking fun at the Superman thing, the only part of the trailer I find awful! I did think his voice was bad but not the end of the world.
To answer your question I do not prefer the joking Freddy and I'm glad they decided to not go down that road in the remake.
I assume they're hiding his face with CGI in the trailer. Hopefully they've done a very good job with the face makeup like they did with England. The face is what makes him the scary icon he is. Keep up the good work New Line!!!
his face made him scary? what... man re watch the films then tell me what the truly scary parts are.. his face is his character.. but his actions ( part 1, 2, and some of 3 ) are the things that make it scary my friend.
His face was that of what you would picture a Demon..not just merely a "burn victim"... The original Freddy was iconic, the makeup, the demon sounding voice, and the dark humor even in the original. THAT is why the movie and MOSTLY Freddy gained the huge cult following.. I've watched it over 100 times growing up since it came out...and many other people around my age (27) can say the same... This new makeup and voice just doesn't have that "demon" effect..and that WILL hurt it for the future imo... Be a good flick to nwatch a couple times, but I doubt it will have the lasting power...
It would be cool if the jacket is on fire when he takes it off sao it seems like he had a reason to take it off
