One of the best parts about growing up in the late 80s and early 90s is that R-rated movies were turned into children's shows, games and merchandise. Violent films like RoboCop and Rambo were typical Saturday morning cartoon viewing material, and even Lloyd Kaufman's Toxic Avenger had a short run as a kids show called The Toxic Crusaders.

The A Nightmare on the Elm Street franchise was one of the biggest culprits transforming Freddy Krueger from an evil child molester into a wisecracking comedian thus making him easier to market to kids like me. This allowed the creation of tons of merchandise tie-ins, including the silly Freddy window hanger pictured below.

I personally owned several of these that I purchased from the dollar store, and my mother was less than thrilled that Freddy was stuck to every surface in our house. I even think one eventually made it to my first apartment when I was a young, sexy, ambitious young man.

The best thing is that Freddy was decked out in actual cloth clothing, and featured a velvet hat with a hole punched through it where the string attached to the suction cup ran through. The website Weirdtoys.com discovered that an earlier version of the toy was flawed because they didn't give Freddy his signature razor blades. Instead he had a fingerless glove with painted black nails (see here). The mistake was eventually fixed by painting his hand silver making two versions of the toy available.
