Platinum Dunes has announced that Jackie Earle Haley will be taking over the role of Freddy Krueger in their 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The Oscar winning actor is famous for playing Kelly in the Bad News Bears and a child molester in the 2006 drama Little Children. He also became of fanboy favorite for playing Rorschach in Zack Snyder's Watchmen.
No word on if Robert Englund will have anything to do with the film at this time.
"Looking at his performance in 'Watchmen,' here’s a guy playing a character under a mask yet you feel tremendous empathy for him. And in 'Nightmare,' he is going to be under prosthetic make-up," director Scott Bayer told The Hollywood Reporter. "You have to feel something for the character. The greatest villains are multi-dimensional and I think he will bring that to the character."
A Nightmare on Elm Street starts shooting April 27th and is aiming for an April 16th, 2010 release date.
you will all be surprised and amazed by how Jakie Earle Haley will take this!! If you have seen him in any of his others then you would be like ok well at least they picked the best guy to take over! I am so amazed at how people of the world act today over such small things, get a grip it is a movie and it will be AWESOME!! lol

Well, Brad Douriff will be doing the voice of Chucky in the remake of Child's Play, that's not another sequel. SO actually, it wouldn't be another sequel if it had the plot of the original.
if eveyone would stop and understand that this is a remake of a film ...if they used robert englund than they would just go ahead and make another sequel..it would be kinda dumb to re-do a movie using the same actor for freddy it would be a waste of money you could just go rent/buy the first dvd. besides they are trying to make freddy a little darker and not so comic-like (which I know Everyone enjoyed) He does not look the same as freddy did and his voice is more desturbed sounding most likely playing off the idea he was burnt so he would not have any lips making speech harder.... It is the same formula they used for the new batman and i think they were much better than the rest excluding Micheal Keaton (he done Great). Either way all love goes to robert E. for the work he done as freddy but if there is no other person to ever play freddy how will we know if he is the best actor for the part. Without compatition you will always be number 1....so lets just wait and see and if he sucks dog his ass then.

When i found out jackie earle haley was playing freddy i was excited cause its new blood in playing freddy. I for one am extremely excited that Jackie Earle Haley will be playing the new Freddy Krueger concidering his work as Rarshacht on The Watchmen. I think he would do a great job playing a character like this because he as already shown in his other role he can play to an audiences sympothy and still be understandibly terrifying. Lets face it, the way he played Rarshacht, dude had some problems... And since Kruegar really isn't scary anymore, the remakes just keep getting more laughs then frights, though Freddy Vs. Jason was kinda cool; idea awesome, terror factor equeled niel, its really about time the reinvented his character in the universe of Villians and brought him up to speed. And I think that Jackie is just the guy to do the job.
wow its real easy to be a tough guy over the internet jackass..robert englund did make the freddy kreuger character what it has become and i do think he should have a role in it for this version. nothing against that new guy but i think of freddie kreuger and i think of robert englund. so stop being an "internet" tough guy, apparently this is the only forum where you probably can be that way and allow others the respect of having their say without being judgmental or coming down on them. you should man up and just allow others their say.

it is a real pity, that you do not accept the opinions of other people and start up a comment with such a violent and weired language.
Indeed he deserves a chance. But YOU will have to understand, that the original series of NOES has a lot of fans - and it will be strange for hardcore fans to see the central charakter being played by another person for first time in history. Not in the movies of the series, not in the tv-series (if you ever should have seen them at all - guess you're still a baby and did not live in that time freddy started up *hehe* ...valued to the lack of education you show and your way to express yourself so damn wrong and with harsh words only) and off course - even in Freddy vs. Jason still Robert Eglund was the Actor.
May be that the new guy is a better actor and deserves his chance, but if you are not able to accept the opinons of others you shall better shut up and just watch the movie. This is not the way to treat people kid.

People didn't think that heath ledger would play a good joker but look what fucking happened he played an amazing joker even better than jack nicholson. Apples and Oranges. Jack Nicholson didn't create the joker. That character already had a personality and history. Jack just made the Joker suck. Englund created Freddy and did not make it suck. Big difference.

Hello people I am from Bulgaria.Тhis movie is known in the whole world.I am a big fan of film and aktor.(Robert Englund).But now I am furious that in the new film will not participate Robert Englund.But I hope the movie to be perfect.
OK, mabye I was a little harsh, but lets look at what people may think. Replaceing Michael Myers or Jaon Voorhees was easy, because they were just lifeless zombified killers. Freddy has personality, and a voice. Robert was always able to pull off a funny character. Now, this guy from a porn action movie is going to try the part. I have heard from people that he will be a good Freddy. One problem, they werent real fans. They were wannabees. I am a real god damned fan!!!! I have Robert's Autograph!!! I have a wall dedicated to the horror genre and my horror film collection is bigger than any other genre that I own. I THINK I KNOW HORROR!!!!! ROBERT ENGLUND IS FREDDY KRUEGER, AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, SUCK IT!!!!!

Robert Englund is the only guy who has ever played Freddy Krueger.
His shoes are going to be hard to fill and quite frankly i'm not sure this guy can do it.
It's like when they replaced Kane Hodder as Jason he had Jason this hulking terrifying monster when someone else took over it wasn't the same.
i know Kane wasn't happy when they took Jason away from him he wanted to continue as Jason he loved doing it it was fun for him. that's what he said anyway.

i am a HUGE englund fan and freddy fan alike. i agree that it will be VERY hard to top robs version of freddy, but you'll never know till u see someone else in the green and red stripes,fedora, and infamous razor glove. i watched the trailer and got chills just thinking of the idea of a whole new, fresh nightmare movie. i cant wait to see what they do with the back story.however, heather langenkamp is also going to be a hard nancy to top.i guess we'll see in the end.
After seeing his performance in Watchmen I believe that he is a much better choice for Kruger than Billy Bob! I am a hardcore fan of the serious since a young buck and think that this remake is going to be among the remake greats such as Friday the 13th remake and Halloween remakes!! Hell, after years of practice and working in a lot of haunted houses even "I" can imitate Freddy's voice flawlessly. But after finding out that Wes Craven is not behind this project in the slightest.... that spells bad things for the future of this film.
I agree, Robert Englund was the best Freddy... Kane Hodder was the best Jason.... But, you gotta remember peeps... these fellas are getting up in the years now, and they can't be chasing half naked coeds around as well anymore :P

I think Robert Englund, although He is the essence of what Freddy was, I have to say that Jackie Earle Haley will have to bring some more deepth of who Freddy can be, and after the wonderful remakes of Halloween, Texas Chainsaw and the not so my favorite- Friday the 13th all having new faces and excluding Mr,. Jason , they all had very well developed backstory. Plus seeing Jackie in Watchmen I can totally see the Freddy in him. Much props is given to Robert Englund who has brought Freddy from Elm street to Camp Crystal lake, but I can totally agree with much anticipation that Jackie Earle Haley will uphold the good Krueger .
My one question is will they stick with the pediaphile story, seems fitting for today. I wonder if the guy from Dateline will be in it?
I think with the new guy playing the role of freddy in 2010 might not turn out that good I will still buy the videos and still watch the movies but with robert england not playing the role of the new remakes just is not going to be the same robert england played the best freddy krueger so far in all his freddy films....
The Best Freddy? He's the only Freddy so far. Give the new guy a chance, he's not even got to try the hat out yet. Who knows... maybe if you open the mind a little, you may like it.
