Producer Brad Fuller published his first update about A Nightmare on Elm Street on his blog, and included this picture of the Springwood Police cruiser. Check out what he had to say about the film's progress below.
So last night was one that I won't forget. We've been shooting in Chicago for two weeks and I've got some great stories to tell, but last night was the first time we filmed Freddy - the first time that we saw Jackie with all his wardrobe and make-up.
It was insane.
Jackie is playing to role with incredible intensity. His Freddy doesn't tell jokes, he is simply terrifying. His make-up is so awesome - obviously there will be elements that you all know so well, but there have been advances in make-up and he truly looks like a burn victim.
It is challenging to have a normal conversation with him because he looks so scary. And if that's not enough, he talks with his hands a lot and at one point he pointed to me with the glove and it was terrifying.
Today we are shooting in a prison. It's not my first time in a prison, but fortunately every time I've been in one it is because we are shooting there. It's always weird though.
The picture you see below is of one of our Springwood police cars and was taken on Friday night when we were shooting a scene when a couple police cars converge on a house.
More later.
I loved Nightmare on Elm Street, it scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. In a way I agree with Bubba when he says that Robert Englund is the only person that should play Freddy, however I loved Jackie Earl's performance in Watchmen and I think that he will do a good job of portraying Freddy Krueger. I like the fact that they are attempting to remake a truly great horror icon, and I am willing to give this a chance. Now with that said I hope to god that they dont take the same route that they did with Friday the 13th. I hope that they dont throw in all the teeny bopper mantra typical in todays horror movies, I hope they leave out all the lame ass sexual inuendo as well as the typical drug references, and above all else I hope they leave out any and all comic relief. I think a horror movie should be just that. A horror movie, and I hope it is dark and it scares the hell out of me. I am so dissapointed in the route new horror movies take.
I'll give you guys credit for the texas chainsaw remake...it needed it. But you didn't have to do this. A Nightmare on Elm Street was the greatest horror film ever made and if you watch the original today it's still just as good as it was 25 years ago. You people are going to ruin something so great...something that does not need a remake. Why oh why do ya'll think every horror film needs to be redone??? Your wrong...you are so wrong. Come up with your own ideas and quit lineing your pockets with other peoples creations. I know what your thinking..."why don't you just give it a chance?" It doesn't deserve a chance. The original was perfect and you can't fix perfect. Robert Englund played Freddy in every movie and the tv series and that's what made the NOES franchise so much better than all the others. Nobody can do Freddy better than him. Say what you want about Jackie Earl but there is no way in hell he is better at Freddy that Robert was. If you would've brought Robert back as Freddy then, maybe, it would be worth watching...i would watch just to see him as Freddy again. But you've changed everything...you might as well change the title too.
I know there will be alot of hype around this movie just like friday the 13th. But as soon as it opens and people see how bad it is it won't make anymore money, just like the friday the 13th remake. I haven't found one person who watched the friday the 13th movie and said it was good. I've heard nothing but negative comments about that movie
God speed to you guys and I hope it all works out for you, but I will not pay my hard earned money to see a masterpiece be torn to shreds just because you want to introduce it to the new generation...if that's the case, why not just buy a copy of the original for everybody.
Normally i'm not a huge fan of "remakes" , But i really am excited about this. The original nightmare on elm street terrified me as a child. and I'm really interested to see the how you guys are going to do this!!!!
Yeah but this doesn't look as cheap as that though.
Kind of reminds me of the "first exclusive photo" from the set of Friday the 13th.
